AYURVEDA TREATMENTS FOR BACK PAIN

Lower back pain is a very common orthopedic issue experienced by many people. Ayurvedic treatment for back pain adopts a holistic approach to cure disease by treating the vitiated tri-doshas. The lumbar region of the spinal cord or the lower back portion is a complex structure with interconnected bones, nerves, ligaments, and muscles. These body parts work in tandem with each other to provide flexibility and mobility. Since the lower back area has many parts working together, even a minor injury or shock can cause problems. The lower back supports the heavy upper body and the vertebral column. Besides, the lumbar region helps in sensory aspects of the pelvic region, legs, and feet and also strengthens the muscles of the subject area. Ayurvedic treatment for back pain aims not only to cure the problem but also to overall health improvement and strengthening of muscles of the individual, helping the patient to live a healthy and rejuvenated life after the Ayurveda treatment.

Cervicalgia is marked by a pain in the neck region, which can either be a sharp, stabbing pain or a dull, persistent pain. The severity of the pain will vary depending on the extent of the injury, and most cases of cervicalgia only cause mild discomfort.

A herniated disk is an injury of the spine (backbone). You have a series of bones (vertebrae) in your spine, stretching from the base of your skull to your tailbone. Between your vertebrae are round cushions called disks. The disks act as buffers between your bones, allowing you to bend and move with ease. When one of these discs’ tears or leaks, it’s called a herniated disk.

Sciatica, also called lumbar radiculopathy, is a pain that originates along your sciatic nerve. This nerve extends from the back of your pelvis down the back of your thigh. Your sciatic nerve is the main nerve in your leg. It is also the largest nerve in your entire body.

Acute lumbago is when the function of your back muscles is limited, usually in the lumbar spine region. It often happens with everyday movements like lifting, bending, or getting up from a seated position. Lumbago is the body’s way of protecting itself – it’s a reflex response where your lower back muscles tense up. This protects the spine and nerve fibers from injury. The increased tension causes the usual symptoms of restricted movement and pain, but also brings greater sensitivity to pressure in the lumbar spine region.

IVDP is commonly known as slip disc. This is a condition wherein, due to injury, the disc or the cushioning structure between the vertebrae bulges out or the material inside the disc protrudes. Depending upon the severity and the way in which the material is expelled, it is classified in to disc bulge, protrusion, extrusion and sequestration. High impact on a healthy disc or a moderate to high impact on an already degenerated disc is the reason for its bulge. It can be due to lifting heavy weight, wrong movements, long duration sitting, long drive and rarely due to sneezing in a wrong postures.

SCOLIOSIS is a sideways curve in your backbone (or spine). Often, it first shows up when you're a child or teenager. The angle of the curve may be small, large, or somewhere in between. But anything that measures more than 10 degrees on an X-ray is considered scoliosis. Doctors may use the letters "C" and "S" to describe the curve.

Cervical spondylosis is a disorder in which there is wear on the cartilage (disks) and bones of the neck (cervical vertebrae). It is a common cause of chronic neck pain. Cervical spondylosis is caused by aging and chronic wear on the cervical spine. This includes the disks or cushions between the neck vertebrae and the joints between the bones of the cervical spine. There may be abnormal growths or spurs on the bones of the spine (vertebrae).

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic form of arthritis. It mostly affects the bones and joints at the base of the spine where it connects with the pelvis. These joints can become swollen and inflamed. Over time, the affected spinal bones may join.

Spinal stenosis is a condition, mostly in adults 50 and older, in which your spinal canal starts to narrow. This can cause pain and other problems. Cervical stenosis is when the neck area of your spine is narrow. Lumbar stenosis is when the lower back area of your spine is narrow.
